I am exceptionally tired; my body likes to wake up at 4:30 and then my brain likes to begin fretting, and then spouse's alarm goes off at 5:30 and often I am still awake fretting and that is it for the sleeping. I have been taking proactive steps to correct this, and thought last night that I was set for a particularly solid night of sleep... and then smol daughter came into our room at 1:30 with a nightmare. She is absolutely welcome to do this, and she climbed into our bed and slept like a rock without any of her famous sleeping elbows-to-the-face, but I kept waking up to monitor the unusual person in my bed and thus it is early afternoon and I am fueled purely by coffee and stubborn willpower; there is a Girl Scout meeting this afternoon and I must get through it and get my children home and fed and into bed and then I am done until tomorrow when my to-do list will reach to the skies as all I have been doing today is minimum maintenance (answering emails, making lists, assembling supplies for meeting) while drinking coffee and staying awake.

(Why not napping? I fear sleep inertia, which I am prone to, even more than sleep deprivation.)

This week will pass, and the next week will be much better, but perhaps next year I will arrange my life so that there are not weeks like this, especially in October during which some of us (myself included) wish to sit and contemplate the past while wiping eyes and having emotions, perhaps alongside listening to music or reading old sf novels which are prone to evoking said emotions. We did this yesterday (minus the reading) and it was satisfactory in many regards, although it did create a mood such that we read the first 25% of The Talented Mr. Ripley before bed, a book which a mere few weeks ago I might have said I had zero interest in.

Now off to the library to return the ILL book that will otherwise be overdue!
