Having spent 90 minutes at a trampoline park with the children, I am now painting smol son's toenails in various shades of orange and red and yellow; smol daughter is also toenail-painting but she's now able to do her own to her satisfaction. The bathroom is rather full of the smell of nailpolish right now, but I cannot open the windows due to the large amount of smoke in the air due to wildfires, so I keep ducking out to breathe & catch up (very slowly) on my Dreamwidth reading page. It is very pleasurable, this chance to read other people's thoughts on books and films and art and so forth; there is not much of that in my everyday life.

For dinner last night spouse made Alsatian chicken in vinegar sauce from a cookbook picked up during our vacation. It was amazing; my only regret was that we had roasted potatoes with it instead of bread, as I really wanted a baguette to soak up as much of the vinegar sauce as possible. Along with the potatoes and chicken was a kale salad, cooked carrots, and asparagus -- a mix of seasons, the asparagus is usually a spring treat and the kale salad a summer staple, but somehow it seemed very autumnal, a good welcoming of my favourite season. I have begun using a fall-scented soap as well, although it is rather aggressively pumpkin/cinnamon scented rather than the lighter apple soap that I prefer. Perhaps tonight an apple candle; outside it is hot and very smoky and not at all like autumn, so I am doing what I can in my home and imagination.

Tomorrow school is back in session, and I must meet about this camping trip as soon as I have dropped off the children; hopefully it will be brief and productive and not generate a new list of 87 tasks which much be done before Friday.
